Sleep is for the weak...

Hello lovelies!!

Update time!! Since an update is well overdue and I have so much to share!

First off, a huge THANK YOU is in order for those of you who have read my first book, The Moonlight Guardian. I have been completely overwhelmed by all the positive responses I keep hearing and by everybody's ongoing support. I certainly did not expect it but it definitely means a lot to me. It's great to know you guys are enjoying the series as much as I enjoy writing it.

I’ve been a busy little bee over the last couple of months. Between working at my ‘real job’, reading the latest releases from my favourite authors (luckily I read fast) and squeezing in time for friends/ family catch up, I have somehow managed to prepare the next book in the Moonlight series as well as work on a couple of new projects (I will fill you in on this later). Seriously, with all this going on at once I’ve barely found the time to sleep! Even then sleep just feels like it's getting in the way of things.

The Moonlight Prince is now in the hands of my editor, who is currently going through it very carefully to ensure it's legible and makes some sort of sense. What makes sense to me will most likely NOT make sense to any of you (except maybe to the friends who’ve learnt the art long ago on how to decipher the stories that can come out of my mouth.) In regards to the release date, we are looking at the end of May or very early June. I’m trying really hard to get it out to you guys as soon as possible, so my fingers are crossed for May!!

The front cover is complete (woo hoo!!) and ready for the big unveiling which has been set for Wednesday the 8th of May. So write the date down in your diary!! The blurb is soooooooo close to being finished! Keep your eyes peeled on Good Reads and the Moonlight Facebook page over the next coming weeks for this. I am very, VERY excited for the release of the second Moonlight book. As I’ve said before, this book will answer some of the questions you may have and will also introduce you to some new characters. I just can't wait!!

I mentioned earlier about some new projects. I am planning to make a completely new series of stand alone books. This means, each book will have its own separate storyline, but you may find that some characters are mentioned in or will ‘pop up’ in other books. It’s very early days yet, so I don’t know how many books are going to make the series yet but currently two are in the works. The two I have been working on are almost complete and I plan on having them published later in the year. One of the books contain a matter rather personal to me and has been quite a challenge to write, so it is important for me to be completely happy with it before I go on sharing it for everyone to see.

I am a huge fan of the latest genre called ‘New Adult’, where books are targeted at an 18+ audience because they contain some rather ‘naughty’ scenes unsuitable for younger readers. The new series will be under this genre. I am both thrilled and nervous to know what you guys will think. More importantly, how my mum will react. I know she will want to read them but I’m still trying to decide whether to let her or not. Sorry Mum!!

I will make more updates later regarding the new series (hopefully I will have a name by the next one!) and will try to have the blurb for the Moonlight Prince up as soon as possible.

Until then it's time to start counting down the days until the cover reveal...

Nine days!!! Only nine days!

M Xx

Valentines Day Special!! Update & Teaser #2

Hi there my little Moonlighters!

Firstly, Happy Valentines Day everyone!!

Secondly, I’m extremely sorry for the lack of communication on my end. My last few weeks have been incredibly busy. I had the torturous job of trying to find a new apartment and then having moving in. I’m happy to say, I’m now all moved in and set up with a lovely housemate (who just so happens to be a friend). Our place is great with spectacular views of the cityJ
I’m also very excited to tell you all that I’m proud aunty to a second little Princess. Avah Lily arrived on the 12th of February (just 2 days ago!) The eldest little Princess, Elle Rose, has been a very good big sister and trying to help Mummy out as much as possible. It’s ridiculously cute!

Ok, so let’s get up to some updates.

I’d like to announce that my amazing little brother is helping out again with the cover art for the Moonlight Prince. Yay! As some would know, he designed the cover for the Moonlight Guardian and I was lucky enough or forceful enough to get him to do the second (best brother, seriously). He’s been working very hard and we’ve had many discussions about how it will look. Let’s hope I can show you all the final result over the next month. I really hope you guys will like it.

There is no confirmed release date of the Moonlight Prince just yet. But I would like to hopefully have it available by April or early May.
I have a few other projects I’ve been working on, which I plan to have out before April and it is mainly the reason why it might take longer for book 2 to be released. Sorry, guys!!

Lastly, since it’s Valentines Day, I thought it would only be appropriate to share with you another teaser from the Moonlight Prince, one with a little romance in it ;-)

Enjoy!!

"He was still talking and I was trying hard to listen but a distracting figure standing in the distance caught my eye. Jealousy filled me as soon as I noticed Dash standing with a familiar dark haired girl in a huge ivory dress. Misha. Well, that was incredibly fast of him to move on. How could he? How could she? Well, I didn’t actually know her, but she was all smiles and giggles with Vladimir earlier, how could she just move on to Dash so quickly?
The little cow had her hands all over him. I could bet on my life that she was only pretending that his suit was out of place just to have a reason to touch him. My jaw tightened and my hands balled into fists at my sides. I wanted to go storming over there, slap her silly and tell her to keep her hands off. At least he was trying to pull her hands away, but the smile on his face and the way is head tilted back from a laugh, proved he was clearly enjoying every minute of her company.
The sound of Aleksey saying my name brought me back into reality.
“Ella?” Shoot!
“Sorry. Yes Aleksey?” I forced myself to look away and focus instead on the handsome guy I had standing right in front of me.
To my relief, I don’t think he noticed I hadn’t been listening. He might've just said my name in conversation. At least I hoped so.
"Would you give me the honor in accepting this dance?" He smiled, offering a gloved hand out to me, while the other rested gently behind his back. Whoa. What the hell happened? One minute he was apologizing for last night, next he’s asking me to dance? How much of the conversation did I miss? All I really wanted to do was to storm over to Dash and that bitch Misha and demand what was going on. But were you allowed to refuse a dance from a Prince? After all, Aleksey has been nothing but nice to me the entire time I’ve been in this country. One dance wouldn’t hurt would it?
I went to open my mouth to answer but at the same time a tiny arm reached over from behind the Tsesarevich and tapped him on the shoulder. Aleksey spun around.
"Your Imperial Highness, may I have this dance?" asked a sweet little voice.
As Aleksey stepped to the side I could see that the voice belonged to a cute teenage girl, no older than fourteen and dressed in a pale green puffy ball gown. She was also wearing more jewels around her neck and on her ears than I'd ever owned, full stop.
Aleksey seemed to tense with annoyance but then quickly relaxed as he offered his hand out to the young girl batting her eyelashes up at him.
"Of course, Violetta. It would be a pleasure." He nodded briskly before turning back to face me. "We shall have to have our dance later in the evening, if that’s okay. I’ll come find you." He gave me a sweet smile and winked before he turned back to the young girl and led her out towards the dance floor.
I watched as they both disappeared into the sea of people, and then looked around the room trying to figure out where on earth the girl had come from. Who was I kidding, Aleksey was gorgeous and charming, not to mention a royal amongst his people; it only made sense that all the young Guardian girls went crazy for him.
The answer came to me quickly when I spotted Amiel nearby watching me with a wide grin and Vladimir standing beside her, giving me a little wave and a telltale smile. Amiel winked then held her drink up in the air to toast. I eyed the both of them and shook my head before turning away, scanning the room for Dash.
I spotted that annoying little Misha girl pretty quickly but no sign of Dash. Misha was now talking to another guy. That girl just doesn’t give up does she? I was about to roll my eyes and groan when a figure stepped in front of my view, startling me. Dash.
He was staring at me with a look I couldn't quite work out. My defenses went up immediately. I straightened up and crossed my arms at my chest.
“Come to apologize? Or is it because that Misha girl turned you down?” I raised my eyebrow at him.
Misha? How do you know Misha?” he questioned with a definite look of confusion on his face.
I sighed. “Vlad. That boy has a major crush on her. He just doesn’t know it or won’t admit to it. Though, I’m beginning to think she has a major crush on anyone she can get her filthy little claws on.” Ok, well that was a little unfair to say since I hadn’t even met the girl. But I was still green-eyed from seeing her touching Dash.
He pulled a funny face. “Vladimir? A crush on Misha?”
“That’s just what I said,” I replied drawing my brows together. “Are you just going to stand here and keep repeating parts of my conversation back to me?”
He seemed to consider something for a moment before an annoying mischievous smirk took over his face. “No. It’s just interesting that you say that," he finally answered with a lazy shrug. "And the part you mentioned about her turning me down? I’ll tell you now that you've got the complete wrong idea.”
Sure. I saw the both of you earlier.”
“Ella, trust me. But I do love the look you have on that cute little face of yours right now.” The mischievous smirk returned. “You’ll realize soon enough and when you do you’ll feel stupid for even thinking that way, believe me,” he said matter-of-factly.
I frowned. How dare he say that. I wanted to say something back but his next few words completely pulled the rug out from underneath me.
“Dance with me.” He wasn’t smiling anymore, instead his expression was replaced by a slightly uneasy one with a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. He was watching me carefully, waiting for my answer, worried what the answer would be. What had gotten into him?
What? Dash, you just called me stupid. There is no way I’m goin―”
He ignored me and grabbed hold of my hand. This was the Dash I knew all too well.
He headed towards the dance floor, dragging me along behind him. Yes, I was still very annoyed at him but I definitely didn’t want to make a scene in the middle of the Imperial Winter Ball. I was already unwelcomed and now everyone could see that I was being dragged out by one of them to the middle of the room. I tried my best to force a smile up at anyone who looked our way as we passed by. I was definitely going to hurt Dash after the night was over.
When Dash found a space on the floor between some people, he spun me around so I was face to face with him. He laced out fingers together with the hand he was already holding and held it up in front of us, while his other hand slid down to the small of my back. He pulled me in close and began swaying us both gently from side to side. I immediately came undone.
My anger vanished, replaced by a strong feeling of desire while the very same jolt of electricity I got whenever Dash touched me, surged through my body. Damn it. I hated how he had his effect on me.
The internal struggle I was having between my mind and body must've shown on my face because a dangerous, sexy grin suddenly appeared on Dash’s face. I felt my cheeks flush red hot and my knees buckle. I didn’t need a mirror to tell me I was red as a tomato.
I swallowed and raised my spare hand, resting on his shoulder, and then I took a deep breath before forcing myself to look him in the eye.
My heart threw itself hard against my ribcage before fluttering a million miles and hour as I took in all of his beautiful features.
His unique colored eyes sparkled as they held my gaze. Usually stern and hard, filled with frustration or determination, there was none of that I could see tonight. Tonight his eyes were filled with uncertainty, sincerity and admiration. The smirk was gone replaced by a slightly nervous smile.
I suddenly found myself worrying that my dancing skills weren't up to scratch, especially to the standards of a boy who attended Russian royal balls all of the time. It couldn’t be much different to dancing ballet right? Dash gave the hand he held a tiny squeeze which instantly soothed me.
“Aren’t you worried about everyone seeing you dancing with a nephilim?”
“Not at all. You're the Tsar’s guest, everybody knows that. Even if they don’t like it, they will never say anything to disrespect him or go against him.”
“Right. Never say anything to my face that is.”
Shh, don’t ruin the moment,” he whispered, continuing to sway me from side to side in time with the string orchestra that I'd only suddenly noticed playing.
I tried to scowl at him but he just gave me an annoying grin and held me closer.
“You know better and that I don’t care what anyone else thinks. You're all I care about.” He pressed a kiss on my forehead, leaving my entire body tingling.
Even if I wanted to be angry with him, I couldn’t, my body wouldn’t let me.
Giving in to my emotions, I rested my head on his chest and closed my eyes. No matter our differences, this boy had the ability to make me surrender my entire body and soul over to him and I was willing to give him all if he were only to ask."

The Moonlight Prince Teaser #1

Here we go guys, here's a little teaser just for you :-)
I know the first question on your minds will be... Who the hell is Aleksey?!?! WELL! There's only a small wait until we find out. But I'll give you a hint- remember how I said my favorite characters are in this book... well, he's one. (Not that that helped at all.)

Please be aware that what I post may be edited or deleted prior to publication.

"Suddenly, out of nowhere the hairs on the back of my neck stood to attention. What the? An unnerving feeling washed over me, causing me to grip Aleksey's hand tighter. My heart pounded hard against my chest, causing my breathing to come up in quick, short and painful pants. My skin, red hot, broke out in a sweat. Something was wrong. I'd never had an anxiety attack before but hell, it sure felt like I was having one.
"Are you alright?"
I just nodded in response to Aleksey's question, refusing to stop or look at him. I just tugged at his hand, forcing him to continue walking with me.
I needed to get out of here. I needed to shake off this bad feeling… Shake off the thought that somebody or something was watching me…"

Here it is as promised- The first sneak preview of The Moonlight Prince.

Hey guys,

A little late but I'm proud to finally give you guys the first sneak preview of the next instalment in the Moonlight series, The Moonlight Prince. I'm pretty excited to be sharing the next chapter in Ella and Dash's adventure and I really hope you guys like it just as much.

I know The Moonlight Guardian left a lot of questions unanswered and I cant say too much at this time about what happens in The Moonlight Prince, but I'll happily give a few hints to ease some of your minds.

We find more out about what Ella is and why Nathaniel is so determined to have Ella.
I'm also very excited to introduce you all to more characters. I love all of my characters but I have to admit some of my favorites come into the next one.

Lets get back to the sneak preview. Since I promised a preview at Christmas time, I thought it was only fair to make this one a BIG one... So, here's the prologue my peeps!! I hope you enjoy!

Please be aware that what I post may be edited or deleted prior to publication.

PROLOGUE

"WHERE WAS I?
One minute I was in the middle of an open field surrounded by colorful wildflowers, with the warm sun kissing every inch of my skin and a wreath of flowers sitting around the top of my head, while my long blond hair danced in the wind. Laughing as I skipped in a pale yellow summery dress, I let my outstretched fingers brush against the stems of each flower that I passed. Then suddenly the skies darkened, the flowers disintegrated right before my eyes and large dark shadows hovered high above. A chill ran down my spine as eerie voices began calling out a name. Elena. It wasn’t my name, I knew that, but something stirred inside of me each time the voices spoke. Elena… They were calling for me. I felt a sudden urge to find my way to them. The voices weren’t human, but yet I felt calm. How was that possible? I tilted my head up towards the heavens. Dark human-like figures with large majestic wings filled the skies, following the one before it in a circle before flying north. Where were they all going? Somehow as soon as I asked the question to myself, the answer came. They were leading me to the voices; they were showing me the way…
My legs moved without command, taking me towards a large temple that materialized before me. The wind whirled and whipped around me, collecting dust as it swept along the now barren wasteland. Ravens, who’d just appeared, with their beady red eyes, screeched in the dead tree branches nearby; but it didn’t frighten me. This was my calling…
A low growl came from behind me, making me immediately halt. I swiftly turned. Staring back at me was a wolf― a large grey and white wolf with strange moonlight silver eyes. I immediately recognized him as the one that I’d seen out the front of my house all those months ago, the same one that had invaded my dreams for many nights. What was he doing here? Where was this place? He bared his canine teeth but didn’t make any attempt to attack. It was as if he was trying to tell me something, but what?
The animal was too beautiful to ignore, so I found myself taking a step towards him. The wolf hesitated for a moment, not taking his gleaming silver eyes off me. Then he turned, throwing his head over his shoulder to look back at me. Did he want me to follow him? Maybe he knew the way out of here?
When I took another small step towards the magnificent creature, the ravens began shrieking loudly and the voices turned into angry whispers. I tried my best to ignore them, concentrating hard on the familiar wolf in front of me. He bowed his head, as if knowing I was asking a question. I followed him.
The more steps I took, the more the scenery around me began to change. Many different colors swirled around me until suddenly I was surrounded by dense green trees and plants. The sky cleared to reveal a breathtaking velvety night sky, sprinkled with millions of tiny stars that reminded me of dazzling diamonds. The forest sparkled under the moonlight, making it look like I'd stepped into some enchanted fairy realm.
The wolf soon stopped in front of a large pool of water and sat. He took one look at me before looking down at the water. Did he want me to look at something? Was that the way out? I walked over towards the edge of the still lake and knelt down beside him. The tranquil water reflected a perfect mirror-image of the night sky above. I leant closer, finding the wolf’s own mystifying eyes staring back at me from in the water, but there was something else that grabbed my attention. It was my reflection. I could see myself, but yet the creature staring back at me wasn’t me at all. Large impressive black wings stretched out behind me, my teeth were long and sharp, and my eyes… the eyes that were staring back into mine weren’t my own blue eyes. They were instead glowing silver― just like the wolf. An ear piercing scream rang through my ears. It took me a moment to realize that the screams were coming from none other than me…"

Music to my ears and soul

YAY!! The Moonlight Guardian is finally published. Now I can finally relax... a little.

Whether you've finished reading, are in the middle or have yet to begin, here's a list of songs I put together that both inspired and helped me through the writing process of The Moonlight Guardian and the entire Moonlight Series. (Yup, of course I had a playlist on my iPod!)

I've placed the songs in no particular order- As I love listening to my 'already mixed' playlist on shuffle, so why not, right?

As you will notice there is ALOT of Florence and the Machine, Birds of Tokyo and the Jezabels (yay! for the Aussie bands!), but they are truly talented artists and their music is AMAZING, meaningful and fits the Moonlight Series so perfectly! A lot of their songs inspired me to write so many scenes throughout the series. First blog ever!!

This will be the first of many more blogs to come. Being the first, and as I also write this whilst lying on my bed patiently waiting for sleep to take over me, it will most likely be short and sweet.

Let me begin by saying why I decided on starting a blog. First, I've always wanted somewhere to write down my thoughts amongst other things. When I was in high school, I used to type up and print out cheesy little articles (mainly about boys mind you) and hand them out to my girl friends to read. (Think teenage girly columns about dating advice that never actually worked.) Yup, definitely cheesy. But it made my friends laugh and that was the whole point.

As I grew older (and online blogging became popular) I constantly told myself that I should eventually get around to starting one... Only, I could never find anything exciting or worth reading to write about. And it usually ended up back on the same topic--boys.

WELL, now, everything is different. I have something very exciting to blog about. Although, I cannot guarantee there won't be any mention of boys- since there are ALOT of cute guys I want to introduce you to in the future (I'm talking fiction of course).

So what I was trying to say before I went on a rant was that, I started the blog so I could begin documenting the joys (and the challenges) of self-publishing.

I will be publishing a YA Urban Fantasy ebook in December (woohoo!!) titled The Moonlight Guardian- the first in the series. Although the story is already in its final stages, it's where the self-publishing issues really start.
The most obvious- I have to 'self' promote and market my own product. Scary!! But yet an exciting adventure I am happy to take. So join me, and hopefully there will be more 'joys' than challenges in store for me... Xx
